Winter Study was, in a word, AMAZING. Quilting has become my new hobby. I don't think I'll ever look at a piece of fabric the same way again. Here's the link to my pictures for the month.
For Dead Week, I went to Christina Chu's house in Virginia. Somehow she managed to convince me that trying snowboarding would be a good idea. Yeah. That crashed and burned. Every muscle in my body below my jawline is sore, and I've got some nasty looking bruises on my rump. You'd think that all the padding I have there would save me from bruising so badly, but nope. The next day we went to Washington DC to be touristy. We went to the Holocaust Museum, which I enjoyed, and then walked briefly around the Air and Space Museum. Christina wouldn't make a very good tour guide. Her version of showing me the city was pointing at old-looking buildings as we passed them in the car. "Look! That looks like it's a monument. I don't know what it is though. Take a picture of it!" It was amusing though, and I had a good time the whole weekend (well okay, maybe except for the last run down the bunny hill on the snowboard).
The new semester starts tomorrow. My definite classes are a music class, an environmental studies class, and a religion class. I'm trying to get into a comparative literature class, but if I can't get in I'll take another English class instead. Can you tell I'm a second-semester senior? I wanted to take classes that I'd enjoy, and for some reason the classes this semester are slim picking. I've taken every non-major science class already, pretty much all of the interesting history classes, and there aren't even any psychology classes that sound interesting this semester. I wanted to take social psychology, but it's not being offered this semester. So much for that. And I refuse to take a writing-intensive class, so a lot of English classes are out. We'll see which class I get into. Hopefully I'll get an e-mail back before classes start tomorrow, because I'd hate to sit through an extra class I have no chance of getting into.
I think most of this semester will be taken up with babysitting. I have three moms who have been calling me non-stop to try to work out a schedule. So far, unfortunately, Demon-Child's mother is the only one who's been successful. In all my years of babysitting, I've never had a child I disliked. With this girl, I dread going there. I almost wanted to cry when her mom said she wanted me there several times a week this semester. I feel like I'm not a babysitter; I'm a paid playmate. This girl only likes to play pretend, so I have to be on all fours, barking, until she finally gets tired of that, and then we go play doctor. She prompts me with what I'm supposed to do if I don't cooperate or try to switch up what happens. I mean, really, how many times can someone make a fuss when getting a pretend shot in the arm before it gets boring? And let me tell you, it's boring. It's painful. The mom never even leaves. She's always in the room with us. I feel sooooooo beyond weird. But I don't know how to tell her that I'd rather sit for 30 unruly children than her demon-child. She doesn't take a hint. I mean, come on, I managed to avoid her all of January, and she knows that Williams students don't do anything during that month. Hopefully I won't have to be there more than 2 hours a week. The other two jobs are good ones. My favorite is a 2 1/2 year old boy who's obsessed with Thomas the train and extremely well-behaved. We play with train sets and puzzles all day. I love that job. The other family has two kids, but I haven't actually sat for them before. I know them from playgroup. Their parents just want a night every few weeks where they can go out to dinner and a movie, and the kids are asleep by 7! I love them already.
Okay, I think that's about all that's been going on in my life. I've finished three applications for grad school, and have three left. I'm not looking forward to doing them because I've had issues with all three that I've done. Why do graduate schools want their stuff sent to three different locations? Of course stuff will be lost. Stupid people. I think VCU is annoyed at me for calling so many times, but come on. I sent them my stuff on January 7th. It got to the Graduate Office, and somehow then it got lost in their campus mail and never made it to the School of Social Work. That is unacceptable. And their problem. They should be the ones to fix it. Unfortunately they don't see it that way. So here begins round 3 of ordering more transcripts, and paying for stuff that is totally unnecessary because it's already been paid for and sent. I'm so sick of this process already. Can't Columbia and UNC get back to me? I won't even bother applying to anywhere else if I get in to one of those. I hate waiting. Boo.
